Overview
Assistant Manager Food Safety
The Assistant Food Safety Manager is responsible for assisting the Food Safety Manager in the overall facilitation of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) related to worker protection, food safety and organic produce regulations at C&B Farms. Specific responsibilities include preparation for employee training(s), reviewing compliance with existing SOP’s, and a deep understanding of Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), as described in more detail below.
Job Duties
- Clear understanding of all SOP’s related to Food Safety and Worker Safety
- Assist in conducting routine inspections and audits of production facilities to ensure compliance with quality and food safety standards that meet the USDA, FDA, GFSI, Organic, and other regulatory standards
- Collect and analyze samples from various stages of production to monitor that quality and safety are being held to the highest company set standard
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspection results, test data, and other quality related documentation
- Prepare reports on data collected in the quality control activities and assist in identifying areas for improvement
- Work closely with other departments to ensure that quality and food safety standards are consistently met
- Assist in training the employees on quality and food safety standards and procedures
- Develops and conducts educational programs relating to risk and safety issues, as required. Maintains current knowledge of policies, guidelines and regulations from governmental agencies
- Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, or fire and smoke incidents; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations
- Respond to customer requests for food safety related documentation per Management’s direction
- Create a culture of collaboration, high engagement and accountability with all farmworkers
- Foster positive working relationships
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Preferred
- Knowledge of Agricultural Worker Protection Standard (WPS) and fumigation management
- Knowledge of USDA’s Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Handling Practices (GHP), and National Organic Program (NOP) Produce Safety Rule, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
- Prior Food Safety experience and/or training certifications (PSR, HACCP, Train the Trainer etc.)
- Ability to communicate in English is required, prefer bilingual – Spanish

- Experience with Microsoft Office
- A desire to support sustainably grown conventional and organic produce
- Motivation and drive for continuous improvement and efficiency
- Ability to obtain and maintain all licenses and/or certificates mentioned above within 90 days, depending on availability of training classes
Additional Details
- Full time position on-site. This is not a remote position
- Working location is split between office and field
- Monday – Saturday with occasional Sunday, Holidays may be required; minimum 50 hour work week
