Hillsborough Soil and Water Conservation District

Hillsborough Soil & Water

About Company

The Conservation District is a local political body, working in close partnership with the agricultural community, Florida Dept of Agriculture, US Department of Agriculture, regional water resources management agency (SWFWMD) and Hillsborough County Administration to improve and maintain natural resource conditions in the rural working areas of the Tampa Bay region.

Hillsborough Soil and Water Conservation District is a Florida Special District, organized under Florida Statutes Title XXXV, Chapter 582, to serve as the local sponsor for Federal and State technical services delivered to landowners and operators in support of natural resources conservation. The Conservation District’s management is overseen by a board of five locally elected “Supervisors”.

The Conservation District’s core mission is to promote Agricultural Best Management Practices for the long term protection of agricultural soils, water quality and other natural resources associated with rural working lands. The activities of each Conservation District may include inspections, land management plans, ownership and use of specialized equipment, farmer education and outreach to the general public, dependent on local conditions.  The Conservation District works through inter-local agreements, Federal and State contracts, grants, and donations to deliver technical assistance, project funds and its outreach programs. In addition to those other sources, the Hillsborough Soil and Water Conservation District gratefully enjoys administrative and financial support from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
