Position Available: Agriculture Teacher & FFA Advisor
South Sumter Middle School Agriculture Program
South Sumter Middle School is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor to lead our growing agriculture program. This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive school and community committed to hands-on, career-focused agricultural education.
About Our Program:
Our expanding agriculture department features a brand-new barn and classroom, large chicken coop, and a dedicated garden area designed to support experiential learning in Animal Systems, Plant Science, Food Production, and Agri-Science Foundations. With continued district and community investment, even more facilities and opportunities are on the way, offering the perfect environment for a motivated teacher to make a lasting impact. This program feeds the South Sumter High School Agriculture Program, working in support with the high school advisors.
Position Responsibilities:
- Teach middle school agriculture courses aligned with state standards
- Advise and coach the South Sumter Middle FFA Chapter
- Integrate hands-on learning through barn management, poultry operations, and garden maintenance
- Develop SAE opportunities and prepare students for CDE/LDE competitions
- Maintain safe, engaging learning environments in all facilities
- Collaborate with community partners, administration, and other agricultural educators
- Support after-school FFA activities, travel, and events
Ideal Candidate Will:
- Possess strong agricultural content knowledge
- Be passionate about youth development through agricultural education and FFA
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Be excited to build and grow a program with expanding resources
- Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education or related field (or eligibility for certification)
- Valid Florida Teaching Certification or ability to obtain
- Experience with FFA or agricultural youth leadership programs preferred
